Improvisers from all over the world descend on Barcelona this summer to celebrate, explore, and showcase improvised musical theatre for local audiences and artists.

BARCELONA, 15 March 2023 - Europe’s first dedicated international musical improv festival brings together amateur and professional improvisers, musicians, comedy fans, and theatre-goers to teach, share, learn, celebrate, and enjoy the hilarious and magical art of musical improv. The festival is the brainchild of Barcelona Improv Group (BIG), Barcelona’s premiere improv comedy company, who have brought improv shows, courses, and training to Barcelona since 2011. 

The Big Sing Musical Improv Festival has been carefully tailored to create an inspiring and supportive space for education and co-creation for local and visiting improvisers to explore and hone their craft. The festival boasts four full days of workshops for beginners and professionals alike taught by improv masters from Brighton (UK), San Francisco (USA), and Amsterdam (NT).

For local theatre-goers and comedy fans, the elegant Calabria 66 theatre will be home to the festival’s 4 jam-packed nights of unscripted storytelling through songs, scenes, rap, and even dance. The festival’s resident masters of musical improv will be joined by invited guests, visiting improv troupes, and mixed ensembles to create 4 uniquely brilliant improv shows each night. 

“Improv comedy is already outrageous and hilarious, but adding music to the pot takes it to a whole new level,” says Ella Galt, Co-Director of BIG. “Watching the performers create hilarious scenes from nothing and seeing them turn into fully fledged musical numbers is absolutely magical. People can’t believe what they’re seeing.” says Galt.
